Fake a good night's sleep
There's nothing that screams "I'M TIRED" quite like those dark circles around your eyes. And even if you got a solid eight hours of shut-eye last night, things like allergies and plain old aging can also cause circles, meaning you're still stuck looking exhausted.
But instead of caking on layers of thick concealer—which can make circles even more noticeable, not to mention highlight fine lines—use these 5 tips for new ways to perk up your peepers.
White eye pencil
Apply to inner eye corners to instantly brighten a dark area women often miss, says London-based makeup artist Liz Pugh. Focus around tear ducts and the hollows of your nose, smudging with your pinky to soften the effect.
Try: Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Pure White ($4; amazon.com).
Eye cream
Dark circles may appear when thin skin reveals veins underneath. Look for a cream with peptides to build collagen and caffeine to constrict blood vessels.
Try: GoodSkin Labs Eyliplex-2 Eye Lift + Circle Reducer ($35; amazon.com).
Concealer
Choose a yellow-toned cover-up one or two shades lighter than your skin. Apply with a small brush only to dark areas—if you also lighten surrounding skin, circles still look darker by comparison.
Try: L'Oreal Paris Visible Lift Line-Minimizing & Tone-Enhancing Concealer with SPF 20 ($5; amazon.com).
Allergy fix
Try an antihistamine and a decongestant to fade allergy-induced dark circles within a month. A med-free solution: Sleep with two pillows under your head to keep blood from pooling under eyes.
A distraction
To take the focus off tired eyes, don't line or apply mascara to lower lashes; redirect attention with a brighter blush or lipstick.
